MedTrust Assisting in Compliance with Evacuation of Healthcare Facilities
Ahead of Hurricane Florence

Transport of patients from hospitals and healthcare facilities sparked by

mandatory evacuation of South Carolina coastal region

Hanahan, SC (September 10, 2018) – MedTrust Medical Transport, LLC, a premier provider of ambulance services in the Lowcountry and Pee Dee regions, has begun its support of local hospitals and other healthcare facility partners in response to the mandatory evacuation of patients in advance of Hurricane Florence.

On Monday afternoon, September 10, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster ordered a mandatory evacuation of all people in evacuation zones ahead of Hurricane Florence. The mandatory evacuation order includes eight counties: Jasper, Beaufort, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Berkeley, Georgetown, and Horry Counties. In addition to residents, the evacuation applies to schools, state government offices and medical facilities, including nursing homes.

The Governor’s order goes into effect at noon on Tuesday, September 11.

MedTrust has opened its Emergency Operations Center (EOC), from which it will coordinate evacuations and medical transports. Staff is communicating with its local hospital and other healthcare facility partners, to determine how many patients need assistance, in what fashion, and how best to transport them in a timely manner between now and the arrival of the storm.

MedTrust and its mutual aid ground ambulance partners are capable of transporting hundreds of patients, from ambulatory to critical care, via ground or air. Along with more than 80 ground vehicles, including ambulances, wheelchair vans and buses, MedTrust is ready to bring in 10 aircraft to support its efforts. MedTrust has secured resources from other states, including New Jersey, Indiana, Georgia and Texas.

Following completion of its contractual obligations to our facilities, MedTrust will also make its resources available to the state of South Carolina to assist with evacuation of other facilities, at the state’s request.

Photos and video of some of MedTrust’s vehicle fleet can be found here.

Further updates on MedTrust’s activities will be issued as events warrant.
